just wondering if anyone has any information on long term backpacking trips? e.g 1 year... main question i have is on visa... what happens if you overstay your visa?

hello reiszrie... you can check out http://www.bootsnall.com. they are a travel community who can provide such information. the people on the forums are really helpful and friendly, and you can also email voluntary 'insiders' of various countries to provide local tips and advice.

these sites should be helpful too... or you can go to kino or borders to get yours a GAP year book =)

wow! gap year is awesome with their around the world flights and tickets. if only i had the cash to do that for an extended period.

Do not overstay your visa. You will only be courting trouble. Aside from fines, you can be jailed, kicked out and barred from ever re-entering the country. So... Do the necessary preparation for visa.

planning to start with a ninimal amount of budget and find work in the countries i'm going to and once i've saved enough from the work, i'll be moving to another country, rinse and repeat....

Ah. Then those countries you visit had better have weak immigration control. Otherwise you are actually not allowed to work on a social visit pass :) Consequences similar to that of overstaying. Deport and barred from re-entry.

And frankly as an alien, I don't think you are going to find enough meaningful jobs to pay enough for your travel. It won't be much of a holiday if you're subjecting yourself to washing bowls and plates at the back of a dirty run down eatery would it?

I think saving up might be the more practical solution here...

depending which country u are in
U can pay an admin fee where middle man will bring ur passport to chop for VISA extenion (exit and entrance again) while U can still enjoy ur journey

And I think they earn more selling your Singapore Passport in the Black Market.

The convenience might not be worth the risk. I personally would advise against parting with your passport in any way.

of cos u must have lot of connection b4 u dare to take this risk
anyway to me not much risk as have seen many friend done that
this agency normally patronised by over-sea business who cannot afford time to go out-and-in country for extension stay
no risk no gain mah........

I like your idea of finding work in the countries then move along from country to country. But do take note of the employment laws in the respective countries (if not becomes illegal worker). Some countries do have those work and travel type of visa.

where u plan to start from......?

1 year dun seems to be a long time for traveling. lol
