I went to NZ for the lunar eclipse recently. I saw a lot of passenger carrying bags larger than my camera bag (AW200) and still allow to bring up the plane. Therefore, if I get a slightly larger size for a tele (200-600mm) and a telescope, then use the padding from my camera bag for lenses and camera bodies, I should able to bring up too in my next trip to USA? I wouldn't be taking any domestic flight over USA as I will be self driving all the way, can check out more locations.
Got the Vanguard 58T and pgytech 11L bag. Going to bring film camera too, restock over Canada side. The 200-600 into the roller bag, limited space after that. 2 x FF inside the 11L bag, the rest in roller bag. Still got about 10 power bank as I am doing time lapse, hope all in nicely
