All experienced photographer, please help with followings:

Q1. Is a light meter a need for DSLR?

Q2. How usefull is a light meter?

Q3. Is Minolta light meter a better choice compare to other brand?

Q4. Between a Minolta 5F and model 6, which one is a good choice.

Q5. Anyone know where I can get one at a good price?

(1) Not a necessity
(2a) It's useful if u r setting the exposure of the studio strobes
(2b) It's useful if u r using a manual camera or camera w/o metering capabilities
(2c) It's useful if u have extra cash ;p
(3) IMO, Minolta is an excellent choice
(4) Both Minolta VF and VI is good, the difference is VI has a 1deg spot scope while VF doesn't, there're also other differences, but all-in-all, VI got more features that one might not use often
(5) any of your favourite shop
(6) If u need to ask the price, VF is about S$550, VI is about S$750, exact price u gotta check with the shops

most models comes with capability for reading flash light. if you are using flash on manual mode, answer to Q1 is yes. the types of cameras does not change the answer.

Generally it's not needed, unless you are either working in a studio a lot or performing critical work in the field and that's not likely to occur unless you are shooting professionally.

Q2. How usefull is a light meter?

They can be very useful in certain circumstances, however for most amateurs the modern in camera light metering systems are more than adequate for almost all shooting.

Q3. Is Minolta light meter a better choice compare to other brand?

Minolta lightmeters are comparable to Sekonic etc, they are a quality meter, but they aren't the best you can get, Gossen from Germany is generally regarded as the best in pro circles, but they also cost an arm and a leg.

Q4. Between a Minolta 5F and model 6, which one is a good choice.

Both are capable meters.

Q5. Anyone know where I can get one at a good price?
Any half decent camera shop can get them. no such thing as a good price with Minolta light meters :devil:
