Hi does anyone know where I can find this or other suitable material for making a custom soft box? How about mounting card?

If you want to use cloth then consult a good fabric shop, or if you want to use translucent plastic consult a plastic fabricator who specialises in packaging materials.

ok thanks. I frequent those shops actually for other personal DIY projects, but thanks anyway. Will go look for some nylon cloth then.

Any particular type I should ask for?

A cheap alternative is to make a wooden frame and mount a tracing paper on it using tape or stapler whichever you like. Clamp it in front of your light when shooting. Make sure it is at least 3 feet away for better diffusion. That's what I use in the studio sometimes if I am not using a softbox.

hmm thanks. You'd be surprised at how cheap the cloth at the lavender area is though.

Either ways it will work. You just have to experiment and find out what you like. Of course there are other methods but I am not sure if I can conveniently share it here as these are considered trade secrets by pro photogs.
