Been using the kit lens 17-55 on D5000 for the past two years . So decided to take a step ahead and getting or maybe upgrade a lens . Been eyeing on Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non vc for street wise, potraits and such .

I'm not sure should i get the VC type or non VC ? is there any differences in the pictures ?

The tamron non-vc is reputed to be much sharper than the vc version.But the 17-55mm is still the king of crop sensor body.Just wondering why do you want to "downgrade" to the 3rd party lens.Cheers!

3rd party lenses can be far higher quality than the "original" ones too at times...

I think TS is referring to 18-55 kit lens. Not 17-55 f2.8. Just go for non vc bro. U don't really need a vc at this focal length. Non vc is cheaper n sharper. Been using it n loving it. No regret there. Cheers!

Because ive ask around in various website and they recommend me to get this lenses which f2.8 tamron 17-50 for good step up.

price - the only factor that people choose the tamron 17-50 alternative.

You might want to consider the Sigma equivalent. I was looking for a new lens a few weeks back, and after doing my homework I felt that the tamron AF wouldn't meet my expectations, so I got the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 for a few hundred $ more.

But in terms of cost, the tamron is the cheapest standard zoom f/2.8 for crop sensor bodies, so if you have a tight budget then you definitely know which one to get.
