Lens with fungus

I just received a lens from a friend.

The inside of the lens had black spots on it.. and look like fungus.

A question; Will my camera be "infected" by the lens if I use it?

I know I should be taking it for cleaning soon..

well biologically it COULD be possible, as fungal spores are quite mobile, but dont need to be paranoid..

and perhaps before you chuck it with the rest of your equipment, you can get it cleaned first.

just drop it off with fatigue in this forum and he'll clean it in no time

difficult question to answer as it really depends on so many factors...

besides you are not sure it those black spots are really fungus...

think to play it safe just send it for cleaning...

anyway, i find it funny that fungus are black spots, they usually a more like light grey streaks...

maybe those black spots are remnants of left behind by some tiny insect/s that has/have entered the lens... did you check for friendly crawlies inside the lens? :bsmilie:

Fungus typically looks more like spiderweb than black dots...

Not sure about fungus and lenses...but as psychobiologist said, fungal spores are highly mobile. They can get blown all over the place if you put it anyway near your other equipment and remain 'dormant' for months to years until they have the right conditions to grow :sticktong

dump the lens in a ziploc bag and 'quarantine' it till you get it clean :think:

it's actually a Nikon 1000mm F11 lens borrowed from a friend.

I was told it's a mirror lens or wat. A shop quoted me $300 to get it cleaned. Worth it?
