Lens maintenance

Hi everyone,

Need some advice on camera lens maintenance on my Canon G2.

Will blower brush scatch the lens?
Is microfibre cloth good for cleaning the lens?
What kind of cleaning solution can be used?

Pls help...

blower brush wont scratch the lens
you can buy any cheap cleaning solution from cathay photo or ruby at peninsular and it will be ok
i do not use microfibre and prefer to use disposable lens papers becasuse stuff might remain on your non disposable cloth and then later scratch the lens. or rather the coating on the lens...

Do u think it is a good idea to wrap your camera and lens in zip-lock or plastic wraps u use in the kitchen? This probably guarantees air-tight.

maybe using a dry box or dry cabinet is a better idea...! :bsmilie:

won't cost much to have a dry box with those blue silica gel that absorbs moisture in the box...!

Without silica gel to absorb the moisture, won't u be sealing in all the moist air with your camera??

For silica gel, we can warm it it in a cooking pan to dry it right?

yup... but some of the silica gel might crack/burst because of the heat from the frying pan...! try not to use back the silica gel that is too fine...! might cause some threat to your lens or camera...! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

The safer way to do it probably be to heat the silica in the microwave. Use either the "reheat" function or the "cook" function. you know its ready when the beads turn purple. you may need to sift through the beads to make sure that those buried under are reheated too.
