It will improve contrast too. When using those built in flash, better remove the hood as some hood will block the bulit in flash.

Then my answer is applicable to you... Something hood can prevent a lens damage if u accidentally bang the lens onto a hard surface. This is becos the hood will take most of the damage. The morale of the story is: If the lens had a hood, USE IT!
