Hey guys, I came across these 2 lenses, I just wanted to ask some opinions, specially those who have used it. Its the Nikon 85mm 1.4 AIS and the 2.0 version.
The 2.0 version is $400 cheaper compare to 1.4. Should I go with the 2.0 or the difference is worth the performance of having the 1.4. I'm shooting B&W.
Thanks.

I will choose 85/1.4 for the extra stop, I normally use ISO400 film.

Hi,

Used the 85/2 Ai before, and here are my views on the lens:

- Soft and dreamy wide open
- sharpens up nicely from f4 onwards to give sharp photos.
- very compact compared to the 1.4

So unless you are into portraiture (looking for those dreamy shots), wide open performance is not really good. But if shooting in daylight, f5.6 is really sharp. Sold it however, as I find the focal length too restrictive, and it is not much of a difference between my 50mm and 105mm.

However, do note that I used it on a 1.5 crop DSLR so its not a full evaluation. Just my 2cents.

I'd go for the 1.4 ais, but I nv used it before, just the af-d version. But it is rated quite highly compared to the 2.

Cheers.

Thanks guys. Noted. :)
