I bought a cheapo squirt bottle of lens cleaning fluid...
Squirted a little on my palm, it didn't smell of anything and palm didn't feel cool (like if alcohol was evaporating).

I suspect it's nothing but distilled water??! Guess I got what I paid for...

Anyways, what is lens cleaning fluid supposed to contain anyway? Any good brand/type recommendations?

Thanks!

NEVER buy cheap lens cleaning solutions as certain 'cheap' chemicals can damage the coating of you priced lens and that will surely leave a mark and a painful lesson.

no alcohol is good, it can eat away certain coatings.

roti_prata where did you find out that alcohol is bad for the coating. I know that using acetone is a big no no. But IPA should be OK after all this is what people use to clean microscope lens with.
