Hi all.. I am quite new. I am currently on Canon lenses. How often do I need to calibrate my lenses? When do I know its time to be done? Can be done DIY or must send to Canon to do it? Thanks!!

Try http://focustestchart.com/chart.html. This document in the website explains what is Front/Back Focusing and tells you how to check if such problem exists on your lens.
As for calibration of lens, I think for many lens, you will have to head down to the respective service centers to do it. There are more than one reason for the symptom 'cannot focus'. The test chart helps to determine the focus accuracy. But there are situations (low light / low contrast) where the AF sensor simply cannot get a lock. That's not a fault of the lens and no calibrating will help.
