Len Code

In the Buy & Sell section, I always see potential buyer asking for the len code (Canon). May I know why the need to know and wat does the len code represent? Thanks.

The lens code is actually the production date (year month) and the factory it came from. Not all lens have these code. I think only the L LENS.
