The S2 DSLR is targeted at the Medium format market. These are two very different cameras.

And Leica S2 is pretty darn expensive as a system. Read here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/cameras/leica-s2-first.shtml

Really, if you want digital medium format, the Pentax 645D is a better idea.

There are probably alot of reasons why Leica's lenses / cameras are so expensive.
You can argue build quality, limited production, ? better optics.

But it comes as a surprise why u brought up the S2 for comparison against the 35mm format systems

Kiasuism at it's finest... Imagine bringing a S2 to a photog outing and have everyone go "waaaaaaah!". Ego boost, right? But then the pics are XMM handphone standard because the photog doesn't know what he's doing and thinks the most expensive cam will give the best pics.

Actually i will wow at an S2 as well ;p

hI, $$$ can do many things besides getting S2. The person can become a prof in no time.

wow! this compared to FF for canon and nikon, is like ferrari vs bmw...

Wrong, it is like Rolls Royce vs Toyota and Honda.

It is not Ferrari as the Leica certainly cannot out shoot Canon or Nikon in speed. The Leica moves slowly, whereas Canon and Nikon are the high power Toyotas or Hondas.

Oh someone mentioned value for money, why not?

Maybe the Leica will be worth 2x its original value after 20 years, whereas our Canon or Nikon go into a pile of junk.

If both equally are DSLRs.. won't they deteriorate and spoil over time? There will be sensor lifespans as well as electronics.

We're not comparing with film vs digital here right...

Leica and value for money? :bsmilie: That's like asking a Rolls Royce owner about petrol consumption and CO2 emissions

Can't compare Leica S2 with Canon 1Ds
"Maybe" you can compare Leica M9 with Canon 1Ds

Leica S2 vs Hasselblad?? vs Pantax645??

btw, any TS using Leica S2? :D
Can arrange an outing let us "wow"
:bsmilie:

more like a Maybach against a Lexus.

Lexus, ok, u r doing alright financially n u know value for money.
Maybach, u stop counting how many millions u hv.

If anyone says Leica is value for money (not in terms of resale value) I'd like to know which brand of cigarettes you use :)
