Might be heading there next month for approx 3 days.

Day 1 - Friday
- Flight to Kuantan via FireFly @ 11am
- Free at our own leisure

Day 2 - Saturday
- Full Day Workshop

Day 3 - Sunday
- Return flight to Singapore @ 11am

Actually, Day 3 is "open". We can either extend our stay by a day but this really depends on what Kuantan has to offer.

I'd like to ask and hope to hear inputs on the following:

- Places that are worthwhile to visit. We'd like to capture some sceneries (landscape), architecture and do some street photography

- Food that are worth checking and trying out.

- Any recommendation for a hotel to stay in?

- Does anybody know somebody who can drive us around? There'll be 4 of us but none has an international drivers license... so thinking of renting out a car with driver. If you happen to know somebody, please share.

- I read that one can take a Transnasional bus or even the train to Kuantan. Any info on how long the respective trip takes, and which one is advisable?

- Any tips/inputs/suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

:Later,

There is a thread, I think about 3-4 weeks ago, try search, about "road trip / driving up east coast Malaysia" mentioned something about Kuantan.

In Kuantan, nearby the Grand Hyatt hotel, there is a famous curry mee (yellow noddles in curry soup similar to Singapore laksa soup) the taste is not bad, and need wait for at least 25 min after you place order. It is just about 3 min walking, very near. Seems only in the morning. Ask locals.

From Kuantan, you may wish to visit Sungai Lembing for sunrise.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sungai_Lembing

Sg. Lembing is good - there is decent yong tau fu around that area. But I can't be more specific because I was only following my friends.

Alor Akar seafood is good for che zhar. Decent meal for a low price. It should be at Jalan Beserah and Jalan Kubang Buaya intersection.

Teluk Chempedak beach has decent view - worth a visit. A lot of Malay restaurant by the seaside but there is one Chinese restaurant which sells decent Wan Tau Suet (Jelly with cut fruits on ice?).

Taking the bus would be faster and cheaper. The train is quite old ady and it doesn't go all the way to Kuantan but stops at Mentakab or somewhere which is an hour or so drive from Kuantan.

There are a lot of beaches there. It's the South China Sea. They all have merging horizons. But I find that they are very boring beaches. Pretty much dull colours and all that. Not the kind you'd get in Singapore.
That's all I remember from my Kuantan trip 3 weeks ago.

try to visit malay village either by the river or the seaside

Not the kind you'd get in Singapore.

 Singapore's probably not the first place that comes to mind when I'm thinking about stunning beaches (although CS-ers have managed to capture good pictures of them).

I know. But this is a Singaporean forum right. How would I know if ts has been to brazil or Ibiza? If he doesn't know now does it look like how do I compare them with? I'm talking bout sunny day, brown sands beaches. In kuantan are not those you wear bikini and like around like Miami. It's those dull and boring beaches with mundane colours.

Oh you mean Singapore beach is better (for photography and sight seeing)? I could not agree on this.

Most Singapore beach having a lot of ships at the far horizons. Yes Changi beach is nice, but still, not as nice as most Malaysia east coast beach.

Of course if you want some bikini babes as the scene on beach, it won't be possible there.

My god..... I didn't say that it's better to photograph. They are two different kind of beach. One is dull and flat. Another one is the Ibiza kind. You'll have clubbing parties at Sentosa but I don't think anyone will wanna club at the beaches on kuantan that's what I'm saying.

I hope you get what I mean. If you say I'm saying it's better to photograph Singapore beaches it's like saying Dragonflies are better to shoot that Jumpers. It's objective.

This is the beach I saw at Kuantan: http://www.flickr.com/photos/luxen/2306134467/
Heck this IS the beach I saw, I stayed at Swiss Cottage: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rahsoft/2931872932/
And yes I think Sentosa is nicer for sightseeing.

I'm comparing to these beaches: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jpvincam/2171754916/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/alner_s/3411577250/ it's different. One is a nice place to just chill and read a book another one is silicon valley and party DJs.

Ha ha. Guess you need to go nightclub but not go beach.
To most people, their first instinct to go Beach is to enjoy sea, skies, but not clubbing.

And for this purpose, beaches in Kuantan fits. And I found the photos of Kuantan beach you took is just showing a nice beach..

Well it is a nice beach to chill, soak your legs in the water and enjoy with your family. Those aren't taken by me. Credits to the guys who took it.

try rainbow falls in sg lembing if you have the time and are game enough (requires 1hr of 4wd and 1 hr of trekking but its guided), otherwise can do bukit panarama(45 mins walk up a hill to catch sunrise)

if you need contacts to get to these places you can pm me

Oh ya. You can try Lake Chini. It's a nice huge lake with lots of lotus flowers and all that.

in sg lembing town itself, u can find a museum, free entry, and a abandon mining quarters, mainly ruins and structures, near the museum. there is also a swinging bridge.

near lembing, there is a cave (gua charas) a few kms drive from sg lembing. not much, can see a sleeping buddha. further out lembing, there is a waterfall (pandan falls). no need to trek. cost a few dollars per car/person.

going bt panorama, better start early as there is a human traffic jam going up (path is narrow) when i went during the national day hols. when reached the top, look for a path on the right that leads to a plateau and shelter. many people went and squeeze at the left shelter, or jsut stop there, without realising the vantage point to the right i mentioned. probably it is also dark.

i'm oso there during national day break. maybe we've seen each other, Guni_Hoon. =)

to TS. i highly recommend lembing. waterfall is nice, sunrise is gd!
tomato sauce noodle is a must try.

if u are gng in a large grp. try exploring the old mine shaft for some adventure. got 2 big ostrich up there oso. haha

woah.. i didnt know there are so many things to play and shoot in kuantan... most of the time i just head north upwards to kijang there...

Unfortunately, the trip won't be pushing through after all. But still, I say, thanks! :)
