Just saw it on 6.30 pm chinese news. kodak going digital, going to retrench 1000 plus workers. Film users - any thoughts?

me switch from digital to film. hopefully fujifilm is not going on the same path.

I'm user of the following:

kodak - Tmax 100, 400 & Tri-X.
fujifilm - Velvia 50.

Hi,
I feel a bit sad to hear news like that.

But perhaps the rage of digital will pass, and film will make a comeback. Well, it worked for fashions so why can't it work for photography?

Regards,
-Michelle-

Sorry mistake on the number of people going to be retrenched. It's estimated to be 12,000 to 15,000 from the film department. just saw it again on 10 pm news.

hope the film price won't be going up.

My version of the news said Kodak will shave 13000 - 15000 positions, roughly about 25% of its total work force.

can read the news here

About 78 percent of Kodak's research and development dollars would be spent on digital photography by 2006, compared with about 66 percent now, it said. The rest would go to traditional film and services.
But the group insisted it had not abandoned film
.

"Make no mistake - we remain committed to film and printed output, which are, and will continue to be, great businesses," Carp said.
well ... at least we know tat kodak film is not totally gone ...

Digital is the future and film, in all odds, will not make a comeback. Digital is here to stay, but will not kill film.

Film will at worse become a specialist media, something like how b/w emulsions is seldom used today. At best it will be on par with digital. But it will never fade away.
