Fujifilm Corporation unveiled a new square version of its Instax film in May with the release of the Instax SQ10 camera, and now on 25 Oct, Fujifilm is proud to bring the Square format to its lineup of Instax Share printers.

The Instax Share SP-3 Printer. ​

The Instax series as we know is widely used around the world, meeting the need for an instax printer that can print photos shared between friends on social media and photos edited to a desired color style using image processing apps, and of course , what makes instax most popular is the spontaneous of the instant prints.

Improving on the SP-2 significantly, the key strength of the SP-3 is that it prints high quality photos on the instax SQUARE Film, the hugely popular new square format.

With a 1:1 aspect ratio, the structure of square photos is an effective artistic style, even predominant on Instagram.

A key advantage of the SP-3 is its ability to through wifi, connect to smart devices and print images from any source. and as such, in tandem, the Instax Share app (the same one for SP-2, SP-1) has also received an update, with improvements over the years now yielding a smooth and very easy to use experience, from selecting the photo to the final printing process.

Users can even choose to take a shot through the app itself or select an image from the device's photo gallery and from there, choose from a myriad of customisation options to further enhance the print.

Notable additions are the [Collage] and [My Template] functions to this app.

The [Collage] function in the Instax Share app allows users to print up to 9 photos on one sheet

The [My Template] function in the Instax Share app provides creative possibilities, also supporting the adding of text to photos.

My Template comes with templates in 11 designs, such as a magazine cover and a CD jacket. Users can also adjust the color, size and darkness of the text.

In addition to Instagram, Facebook* and Weibo*, the Instax Share app is compatible with Dropbox*, Google Photos* and Flickr* allowing users access to their chosen social media or storage website directly.

Keeping with the tradition and belief in that Instax accessories should be simple to handle and operate, the SP-3 sports a simplistic design with zero wastage. Beyond the smooth design , one sees a USB charging port , reprint button, on/off button and of course, an indicator for no of prints available.

Official Specifications Table.​

(1) Create instax photos by printing images from iPhones and Android™ phones via instax SHARE app.

(2) Images have a high resolution with print pixels of 800 x 800 dots and 318 dpi to show detailed gradations and the facial expressions of a full-length portrait, character or objects clearly.

(3) The product comes with Image Intelligence, proprietary image processing technology that automatically sets the optimum brightness during printing.

(4) Exposure is done while the photo is sent, enabling output in just 13 seconds.

(5) New templates added to the instax SHARE app.
a. My Template
A template function where users can add text as desired and freely adjust the text color, size and darkness by moving sliders left and right, broadening the range of photo styles available to them. (Available only with SP-3.)
b. Collage Template
A template function allowing users to print 2-9 photos together on one sheet. Print a collection of memories from a special day, or tie together photos with a particular theme.
c. Split template
Transform 1 picture into multiple instax photos. This allows all kinds of unique photo styles, such as dividing a beautiful landscape across two instax photos to make one big print.
d. SNS Template
Template for printing images that were uploaded to a social networking service (SNS). This social media-linked printing feature allows users to include their profile photo or number of likes in the photo.
e. Real Time template
When the “Real Time Template” is selected and a photo is taken, the date, place, weather, temperature, and humidity are indicated in the frame. Great for travel photos or watching your baby grow.

(6) The simple yet sophisticated design has a modern, sharp shape and rich colors.

(7) Equipped with a rechargeable battery to charge via micro USB port. Around 160 photos can be printed per charge.

(8) Users can print image data directly from a Fujifilm digital camera.

For the friends who have the preference of looking at official spec tables, the SP-3 prints at 318 dpi, the same quality printing you will expect to be from the SQ10 Square camera. The NP-50 also easily prints significantly more than 100 prints per charged, with the official spec tally at approx 160 prints per charge.

*Disclaimer* The set mentioned here was a pre-production set featuring pre-production firmware. I was also informed that the image quality in the retail version would be significantly improved over what I had in this set.

As with the SP-2, powering up and connecting the printer to my iPhone 7 was effortless and took lesser than a minute. Punch in the default password of 1111 (you can change this later) to allow data transfer and I was set to go towards selecting the image to print and editing (filters, templates, collages you know the full works)

Printing was surprising quick, 10 seconds flat maximum and of course the next part would be the most fun part, watching the image develop into a reality.

In all, if one has used any of the SP series before, the level of simplicity and ease of operation is still retained and remarkably fast.

The joy of seeing one's images in print, or even booked is difficult to describe but yes, definitely worth it.
