One example I can give you is....previously someone in KL wanted to fly to Houston for Business or stuff....they have to fly other airline like or MH.....if they want to fly in style with SQ....they have to go to KLIA to take a connecting flight to changi airport...and then wait at Changi airport for the next flight to Houston which usually at wee hour morning......the traveling time....waiting time.....check in time and boarding time can easily take up to a day.....going back home is the same routine...
Now....with bullet train...they could go to train Terminal at Sg Besi after dinner at night....catch the next train and reach Jurong in say 1.5 hour later...from experience in Taiwan and China....high speed train pre-checking is only half an hour....if you miss the train you can always catch the next one with very high interval.....then from Jurong to Changi by MRT or Taxi or shuttle bus etc in another hour....voila...off they go to SQ flight to Houston....:lovegrin:
There are other benefit for example Medical center, Casino, Sentosa, Jurong Bird Park or even IMM shoppings is just a short ride by KLian :sweatsm:
You have made some valid points.
Some people do not see or can't think of the benefits now, both tangible and intangible until the speed rail is built.
Just have a look at the current travel options to KL and for a moment let's look beyond the casual weekend shoppers. People doing business can take a plane and arrive in KLIA: far from KL city and their business partners. Getting to Kl needs another train ride, taxi, bus .. Second option: drive by yourself. Third: coach. Now, which of these options offers a relaxed seat with space to use a laptop? Because that's what business people need. Taking business class is an option, but what is the price?
A fast train cuts through all those delay factors (long way to airport, check-in times) and brings people straight to the city. Have a look at the seat configuration of any of the fast trains around the world and you will see the difference. Check the prices and compare with standard tickets, the difference is obvious.
Assuming your example is valid, but why would MY so stupid to give SG the business?
They would rather make MAS fly direct to USA. Now with the new MAS CEO, its even more apparent that he will change MAS for the better.
The contributing factor for this train service to succeed is "how much is the ticket"
At present moment, one way coack ticket to KL is S$30. assuming they will charge 3 times, that's S$90 for one way. Will anyone pay?

It's not you want to fly means US must give you the landing right....with Msia who they never sold F16 and MAS good reputation some more...also think why uncle Sam will give you space where their own airspace is already so crowded? Next...do you think MAS have enough load to be profitable in this kind of route? One business class ticket to US can easily cost SGD4k and above....they are not many company in KL can afford this kind of price unless you are in oil and gas business....which most of their regional HQ is in SG anyway...
Another advantage Changi has over the other airport is it is also the regional hub for major airline....similar to PSA....not every cargo ship wanted to dock at Port Klang or Kuantan unless they have a very specific cargo they need from that port,,,,for general purpose and transshipping, call at Singapore port make more dollar and sense..
As for MY...of course it make sense as this will bring tourists and businesses to Msia too....one major winner will be Iskandar zone since almost 1/2 the journey are in it....for factory in Muar, Batu Pahat, Air Keroh....preparing LC or export doc is just half hour bullet train ride to Nusajaya or KL....daily golf trip to Melaka is no longer far fetch....I have colleague in Hkg always took train trip to Shenzhen or Donguan just to a round of 18 holes.....it will change the way people doing business and leisure in the southern Peninsular and Singapore
As for the price....it all down to the service quality...I feel anything less than SGD100 should be fair....fyi a short train ride from KLIA to KL central already cost something like RM35...so I will not surprise if they dare to charge RM350 for this:sweat:

Yes, because the old equation "time is Money" still holds. Casual shoppers who need their money for consumer stuff will likely not pay $90 or more, but business people will appreciate the additional time they can use for their business.
Changi is a stronghold for air traffic and the trains won't make a big dent into their revenue sheets. On the other hand: it's obvious that SG does not only want to rely on Changi alone. A second stream to bring people into the country increases the overall passenger numbers. The freed capacities on Changi can be used for long distance flights and their passenger capacities.
If one develops the idea further, then even countries like TH, VN and others in the North could be linked to Singapore via rail. The Eastern & Oriental Express is a luxury train and serves a special group of customers. But once the rails are laid, then also a lot of goods could be pushed from the road to the rail. That would be more beneficial for the environment. Switzerland shows how it works with an efficient railway system. The ideas are there, it just needs the political will to push it through against singular interests.

Property prices at Jurong East and KL will rise because of this mega project. The shopping malls' value at KL will rise sharply too. Most likely the prices of goods inside the shopping malls of KL will rise steadily when influx of Singaporeans into KL start.. Same story as JB's City Square
