It is something very possible actually. Upon trauma, the body pumps in a huge dose of adrenalin masking the pain, so if he is not looking he wouldn't know that his leg's missing.

When the adrenalin wears off, then he'll feel the pain and then go into shock.

before that, i think he will feel faint due to loss of blood then shock then die...
 

After a heavy photo session of bikini girls some photographers also can't feel their legs what. :)
In fact, a third 'leg' starts to grow somewhere in between the two.......mind over body control!
