Was at a wedding lin a church last Sat and saw the photographer shooting away with a D100+flash+omnibounce pointed at 45deg. With the high ceilings and low light conditions, wouldn't the background be underexposed ?

it depends on the mood he would want to portray.... perhaps he pointed it high up for better light diffusion... if he fired the flash straight...it may be too harsh.... who knows?

either way...the flash only illuminates a particular subject....i dun tink it would affect bg unless he metered for bg too...but i suppose in a wedding, the photog got no time to manually set the flash for every shot....

IIRC, that is what recommended way of using omnibounce.

Capturing background depends also on ISO, aperture & shutter speed. The flash serves to brighten up the subject, the background is not illuminated by the flash at all.

He could be using slow shutter speed and higher ISO that helps to capture some of the background.

How would these methods compare to omnibounce in the same situation ?
- plain bounce card with flash
- Full bounce with flash using lumiquest midi bounce
