I can see some specks (& a crescent shape line) when i look thru the viewfinder. I change lens but still see the same thing.

However, it does not have any effect on photos.

Should i bother to send for servicing?

It is a two mth old 400D EOS.

Dust in viewfinder... If it were me I'd leave it as it is... But if you are the super yim chim kind then better send in to service centre for cleaning...

Try to use a blower and blow the dust off? The artefact definitely exist in the viewfinder.

check the mirror

Confirmed it is dust. The blower did the job. The auto sensor cleaner not useful in this case.

Yes, just found out today. One must fiddle with it to find out. :)

The dust cleaner only 'shakes' dust away from the sensor but not the viewfinder. Just fyi. ;)

i realized no one actually did answer your thread header question..

so yes, it is common if you actually shoot with your camera and not bai mei one.

Try blowing off the mirror and other visible parts if not you can try taking out the focusing screen to blow. I did it a couple of times on my 20D. Simple 3min job.
