is there such things as LENS needed CALIBRATION?

Got a sigma lens recently, but i realise the pix quality is not good.

diff lens sigma 18-125 and canon 50mm 1.8

same setting(all set to 50mm, same fstop speed same SETTINGs)

The pix taken by the sigma lens is always less appealing,
tone is not gradual and easily has hot spots, too orangy

Some told me...."your lens lousy"
"Maybe when this sigma lens is used for Canon 300D, it needs some calibration"

1)WHY THE CALIBRATION, IS THERE A NEED TO? any expert can give me word of ADVICE??

2) IS there a need to also update CANON 300D "latest version software UPDATES?"

Calibration has got nothing to do with the 'orangey' images you get with the Sigma lens.....what he meant with the orangey images is that Sigma lenses tend to give 'warmer' images, warmer here means more towards red, and this to us gives a 'warmer' atmospheric feeling.

Calibration problems do occur when some lenses does not focus at the same area where you point the AF marker of your camera at. Some lenses focus in front (frontfocus) or behind (backfocus) the point where you focussed at with your camera. And some of these lenses can be from Nikon or Canon too! Not only with third party (such as Sigma) lenses!
