i cant seem to get just the top part blurred only.
something's wrong with my kx? or is it just user problem?

It's normal and to be expected. The depth of field is only a couple cm with the aperture you set, so anything beyond this range will be blurred out.

If you want the bottom part sharp and the top blurred, focus on the bottom (instead of the center).

Its the DOF...

Why dun u test ur camera. Put it on a tripod and test every aperture at a subject that has some background. U can see.

Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depth_of_field. There're diagrams and example pics there that helps.

You don't have to know any of the maths, but the basic concept is crucial if you want to have any control over how your pic turns out.

Or maybe get a tilt shift lens :D
