Is Nikon D5000 good for newbie??

I would suggest using the viewfinder for DSLRs because most of the DSLRs out there now still autofocus very slowly in live view. Changing to "sports mode" won't help because it's the type of AF in live view that matters, not the camera mode. No matter which position u set the mode dial to, the AF speed won't change in live view

There are exceptions like GH1 and I heard Sony DSLRs that can focus fast in live view, mainly because they use a mirrorless system or a separate sensor for live view. Generally, cameras with a mirror system will focus (and shoot) slowly in live view.

D5000 is darn good for a newbie. i would like one for shooting around when travelling as well.
no need to think too much about those comments on motor or bla bla.. all new nikon lenses are AF-S anyway. All canon cameras also don't have build in motor. it is the future of most DSLR camera systems anyway.

it is handy, takes good pictures, have swivel screen for self portrait when travelling etc...
all that you need is there.

Hehehe. But what are the freebies? ;p I'm also looking into what freebies they are giving, apart from the price they are offering.
