wat do u think? is it possible that in future we do not need to upgrade our dslr anymore, just upgrade from 3.2mpix to 6.3mpix or 11mpix to 16mpix by replacing the sensor only. is that possible?? ;p

you can already do something similar now with cameras like the horseman digiflex series..

well technically it can be classified as a DSLR bah.. :bsmilie:

Can!

When the technology of digital imaging should be mature, progress should close to stagnant (just like film, the size/format does not change for almost 100 years).

And the camera may classified as upgradeable DSLR, the camera body should build like an armour tank, almost indestructible, life span is at least 15~20 years.

So, how much is this camera? It should price around about 3~5 times of top range DSLR today. Or the camera may be price cheaper so is more affordable to general photographers, but the sensor is a price at as today mid range DSLR.

imagine next time sensors come like film, we can use the sensors like we use our memory card, den no more dust problems... each sensor is like 1TP (terapixel)

Technological advancement is not limited to the sensor only. Faster processors, more advance image processing techniques, higher image transfer rate, better mechanical design, faster AF, better ergonomics etc will obsolete a camera even if the sensor is upgradable. My 2 cents.

The technology is already here but very expensive. Sinar M is one such camera, it can use any camera maker lens from nikon, canon to hasselblad, rollei. You can even change from film backs to any digital backs on the market. :D

Maybe one day, but there's other parts of the camera body that can continue to advance and demand a price e.g. software algorithms for focusing and exposure control, buffer for continuous shooting. Not soon, as the industry seems to band together in releasing upgrades a step at a time to cream the market slowly.
