At the start of this year i went to japan for a trip.
Temp was ranging around 9 to 11 degrees.

During shooting at nara, my 40D had this coded error
(which i forget what is it ) when i try to forcus.
And my shutter can't even work !
The weather then was freezing with light rain....

This lasted till i need to switch on and off the camera.

Does this occured often in cold weather ?
Or mechnical fault ?

Do you mean "focus"?

9-11 degrees is nothing, you should have no problems.

Unless moisture entered the camera, chances are it's more likely to be battery failure in cold weather.

This lasted till I need to switch on and off the camera.

Did you camera work ok for awhile everytime you switched it off, then back on in the cold, or after you went inside and after a few minutes in a warmed environment?

no such thing,

i shoot in lower temperatures also no such problem, i think something is wrong with your camera

9-11 degrees is far from freezing. Do pay attention to any error codes displayed. They have a meaning and there are lists where you can 'decode' the number to get more detailed information about the error and how to resolve it.
Your shutter didn't work because the camera could not focus. That's normal.

A friend of mine was telling me that he was shooting in -10 degree temperature and his cam is still works fine, so 9-11 degree should not be a problem. Seems like it's your cam's problem. Better send it for a check.

shouldnt have a problem.
i have shoot in -20C ...and everything works fine.
just be careful when u walk into warmer places...put the cam in ur bag...so that it doesnt suddenly defrost and u get water stuck in ur cam

What i mean is 'auto forcus'
But later returning to singapore, i never encounter this problems again.
Not any more.

Check my lenses and no problems found.

Thanks for all the feedback. ;)
I am beginning to suspect maybe my camera
is very sensative to cold. I might as well take it to canon for a checkup.

I think you mean 'auto focus'. Dude, there's no such thing as forcus.

In any case, people have been known to shoot in sub-zero temperatures, so it could either be case of your battery failing/draining due to cold weather (which can happen), but it seems unlikely 'cause you could reboot the camera. Seems to me like a one-off that happened there. If it happens again in Singapore, consider sending it in.
