Hi,
I am new to photography and I can't really tell the difference between noise induced or normal grain texture in ISO 400. JUst took the pic this afternoon. Appreciate feedback and advice.

Its noise from your ISO. Otherwise, noise from PP.

Is it due to sensor or incorrect setting. Is it a norm to see noise at ISO 400 or is it due to my canera. Will it help if change to larger size sensor type of camera. Currently I am using Canon 400D,will a 40D improve the situation ? Does it improve with Canon 5D ? Thanks for all the replies:D

Definitely if you go up the chain, the noise performance will improve with the 5D and not to mention 1D being the best of the lot!

for the 400D shud not see noise at iso400 shud be quite clean.
only at iso 800 ,1600 then noise will start to appear. but still very well controlled.
but for the 40D hi-iso(i think iso 3200?) the noise is quite bad.

noise control is sth that generally improves with technology, didnt think 40d would be that bad.

if u got budget and need great noise control, 1ds mkIII
