Why do people own expansive filters for? Are they really important?
I mean u can achieve those effect on photoshop right? Isn't it a waste of money of buying filters. I buy filters to protect the camera lens only.

Please correct me, if I am wrong. I am really curious here.

There are some filters that you can't achieve via photoshop like ND and polarisers

Yes.. I only own the Polariser and ND..

The rest I agree can manipulate from photoshop..

But at times when I see a filter sale, I kind of have tried the cross stars, soft, haze filters..

Its interesting to have those .. I mean experimenting with the effects..

It is important for me due to the following reasons:

1. I like to get a proper exposure without having to blend two images together.
2. To take long exposures without having to shoot beyond f/16.
3. To polarize the sky and make the green in trees look more appealing.
