Digital wedding photography is getting very popular, is film a dying trend?
Wondering how much the wedding couple apprecaite film quality or just follow the trend and technolgy to opt for digital instead?

a lot of older film folks are having problem, they dunno photoshop.

to higher sharpness n contrast,
and if all they want is 4R.
further more, less worries about,..
how the pictures turnout and
having to time/count ur shots!

i think in a way those who can optimise the potential of digital photography has made some wedding more exciting, imagine being able to share moments of the AD daytime ceremonies during the dinner on a big projection screen

well, work within limits lor, it's all about a personalised workflow, don't really think it's a nightmare

Nah... I guess not.

Amongst photographers, I believe that some would still insist on their wedding photographer use film.

If i'm the one getting married, I would request for 2 photographers one doing B&W and another doing digital colour.

And lot of them are wanting stuff like Express highlights Photo Montage to show the day's happening. So.....digital is the only way to go for that. Nowadays it's always instant gratification, sms, computer gaming, PDA etc....sh** in the toilet also want to read email. Yup, life in Singapore is pretty fast.

Now we even have real-time video and sms messaging.

I know quite a number of photogs who still shoot film, including some here from CS. Some even use lomo. Even saw MF film in weddings before. Still very much alive I believe. Bottom line is, photographer is familiar and comfortable with the equipment they are using.

Both formats have their inherent benefits.

True. Some clients like a photo montage to be shown during their dinner, some want special effects on their photos etc. Shooting film will mean additional step in scanning. Time lengthen, extra step in workflow.

Yes, for I want see, but it still take sometime, maybe another one or two years,

Nowadays the photographers and the lab are very familiar and confident with digital photography, so the output is much better than few years ago. Besides wedding couples are well accept the change and it is not really just about the quality, also the convenient of modern technology. (Able to view and store in PC, share online etc.)

May I know are you in the dilemma between switch to digital or stays on film for wedding day photography, if yes, please feel free to share here.

Wrong! Some jokers never do math, thought that don't need to buy film so got no cost, so charge cheaper then film photography, anyway the camera is a gift from parents, so don't have to factor the cost also.

The different between shooting film and digital

When you shooting film for wedding day,
You need to drop the film to the lab, and you collect it back when print is done.
Deliver the album to the couple and smile all the way to the bank

When you shooting digital for wedding day,
You need to learn about using computer.
You need to buy digital camera and lenses and start learn how to use them.
And you come back with 3 to 4 time more images than you usually shoot on film.
And you spend more hours in front of PC than you shot for that assignment.
And you visit your labs more often just for one assignment.
And slowly you know how to use them a few months later.




Take about postproduction about wedding day photography

You don’t do postproduction people say you not pro.
You do the postproduction, the pro say you know nuts about photography

So you have to find out the real answer yourself. :bsmilie:

The thing abt digital photography is that:

- Use DSLR, ppl think u pro
- DSLR = Magic Camera = Instant perfect pictures
- Post processing = cheating = no skill

That's the saddest part since post processing photos (especially RAW files) is a must for any DSLR shooters especially when the *(@#$&#*@ white balance cocks up.
