I'm using my LG Optimus 2X. It's a dual-core phone. Don't have any major problems.
Have not heard of virus related problems too.
Why not? It's an easy way to access your email credentials, facebook account, phone numbers, credit card/paypal details, etc.

My iPhone 3G still smooth smooth. Wish it accidentally slip to the toilet bowl or my house window... Fall down few times when walking on street, NOT YET SPOILT! :angry:
When new, you protect it with all kinds of things so it won't even have a scratch. When old already, you hope it fail faster so you can buy a new one...

For once I am android to iPhone convert and never look back. U ask me why? Because there is one and only apple but there are dozen of androids.....similar to windows vs Mac......sure.... hardware and benchmark wise they are miles ahead but tell that to a die hard Mac user.....thats the reason why apple top Exxon as world most valuable company

Branding cost ? Is branding free or just because you are popular therefore you are famous ? This involves PR cost. PR is not free. PR is not something your CEO and COO and CTO and all those C class does. It again done by professional PR companies.
How about the so well know Apple stores online ? How about this cost ? How about the Apple customer officers that are working behind the scene ? How about this cost ?
How about maintenance and support cost ? Do you think someone will be there waiting for you to report about your iPhone is not working or having drop lines in the middle of a conversation ? It's not just Singapore that you are talking about.
How about logistic cost ? Which another company offer the kind of delivery that you are getting now ? Think about it.
How about Apple Store cost and the high standard layout and furniture and design ? Do you think it's done by some nobody knows freelancer whom design the shop ? How many companies store out there have guidelines of the standard you get from Apple Inc ? Such as lights must be 4100K in temperature all out ? One spoilt lamps and all lamps redeliver ? How many companies out there are willing to spend the money to request osram re-evaluate all the lamps for temperature consistency for every batches that are for Apple ?
How often you hear about WWDC and conferences as often as what you get from Apple Inc ? Where do you think all these cost comes from ? How many of the software company provide the kind of platform that you are experiencing from Apple ?
How much do you think you want to pay for Apple App store ? Is the hosting and platform free ? Think about the ebooks, the music and video collections.
How about component procurement cost ? Do you think Samsung owe Apple a favor to make sure they get sufficient supply of LCD when Japan is in crisis ? Do you think signing long term contract with these companies that they themselves are also product manufacturer doesn't come with a cost ? Think again.
After you calculate all these cost, then you mark up and put a price tag on Apple products
Now when you look at Android ? Who is Android ? It's google platform, so why you mention about Samsung ? HP ? Acer ? HTC ? Sony ? and so forth ? I think the list just goes on into even companies and brands not heard of. Where is the convergence ? Where is the standard to maintain ?
Are you aware of how much HTC has pour in in User interface design from the vanilla Android ?
Do you see why Microsoft need to have another platform of their own ?
When you see Android platform, which company you relate to most ? Why ? When you see IOS platform, which brand comes to your mind ? Do you feel this doesn't require cost to achieve ?
We have to be realistic, today if you are a nobody photographer, it makes a difference when you use a high end Nikon or Cannon camera in front of your client. If you use other XXX brand, will your client view you differently ? Of course, this can go on and on about it's not the gear, it's the photographer and his skill. Your client knows that ? Your client knows you are going to deliver superior quality with your XYZ brand camera, which could be way better than using a Nikon or Canon camera ? A lot of photographers here build their name bit by bit and it is not CHEAP. Ask them yourself how much they went through to build their reputation and branding which is more fragile than the glass in the lens.
Therefore don't be narrow minded. Look at the big picture, don't just look at a single product and determine its price. The math is not difficult, but the list is long and vague.

my iphone 3Gs is falling apart (very significant cracks, volume buttons came out, home button going insensitive, lagging SIGNIFICANTLY), no reason not to upgrade haha

True. Virus is the old ways of doing harm. Today, there are many ways to harm smartphones without having to open a files.
it is not just the material cost what.
if it is only material, then Windows should be free as it is 0 and 1 bit and bytes only which is non material. LOL
Windows is too big to drop. Even though more people using Mac but every Mac users will still install Windows. So Windows still win, even if you use Mac or PC
