Exhibition of a One-room Flat
Opens 1st May to 16 May 2003

What started out as just a school project has evolved into a unique collaboration between the Singapore History Museum and Temasek Polytechnic. Organised by a group of third year Visual Communications students from the Temasek Design School, this exhibition is an installation that creates life in a one-room flat.

The objective is to create a body of work that documents the essence of the fast-disappearing one-room flat and the people living there and to reveal that this is not confined to a thing of the past.

The exhibition will present both images and installations taken or collected from the one-room flats; its environment, the community and of the residents living there. Highlights include black and white photographs on the urban culture of old Singapore as well as a 25-minute documentary of the residents captured on film providing an oral and visual record of their life and times. This exhibition seeks to capture part of Singapore's history from the eyes of the younger generation.

The exhibition will be held at the entrance foyer from 1 May 2003 to 16 May 2003.
