Questions about the new ZF

Answers from Dr. Winfried Scherle (left), Vice President & General Manager, Camera Lens Division and Kornelius Mueller (right), Marketing Manager

CLN: "ZF" – what is that?
Dr. Scherle: ZF designates a new range of Carl Zeiss lenses for 35 mm SLRs with Nikon F mount.

CLN: For digital, too?
Dr. Scherle: Sure, for digital, too. Even for cameras with full frame sensors!

HOLD EVERYTHING!!!!! "Even for cameras with full frame sensors"

Regards,
Arto.

this is more interesting

"The Pricing will be suitable competitive with similar items in the Nikon F-system."
and i think that they are MF lenses, can someone confirm?

So what? All Nikon 35mm film cameras are "full frame".

If I were to read carefully, Dr Scherle first answer states that ZF lens are for Nikon SLRs. His second answer claims that the lens can also be used for digital SLRs. His second sentence to the second answer merely states that their Zeiss lens can support full-frame sensors because they are essentially 35mm film lenses which are basically full-frame in digital terms. But that does not mean Nikon is coming out with full-frame DSLRs. It just means that the lens are not "DX".

For the rest of the thread visitors, please read the informative article to get the full story. ZF lenses are manual focus and came in at a time when Nikon announced that they will no longer produce manual lenses. They also have ZS lenses that uses a universal SLR mount that supports other camera brands with appropriate adapters. This explains why ZF/ZS lenses support full-frame sensors.

At the end of the day, Zeiss aims to produce a range of lenses that can support all F-mount bodies, from manual to auto-focus, from film to digital SLRs. That's all it matters to Zeiss.

if Zeiss comes out with MF lenses, i wonder how many digital users will actually get them.

oh no
not that issue again
can we cut the crap and just say
35mm film frame 24mm x 36mm frame sensor

ok ok
1mm x 1mm size also can be called "full frame sensor"
if one insists.....and some DO insist

semantics..... shieeshhh.......

I just got a comment....

Be prepared for more firings by our dear Watcher.

Lots more entertainment coming our way.
Ha ha no need.

The reason is because when the a discussion thread crosses format types, the term "full frame" is not precise or at times, misleading. Medium format has its full frame/crop frame, so does Large Format.

Someone had said that it is ironic that the smallest popular format (the others like APS is no longer active), 35mm (aka 24x36mm) is called "full frame". To reduce confusion, state up front the words "full frame" does not confer any magical abilities to win debates ;)

Eh... explain so much. They expect a show, we put up a show. :D :D
