Free style Prime lens exercise.

Difficulty: Intermediate to Advance photographers.
Who should go: Anyone who is confident at the below rules.

Exercise rules:
1. One lens only rule – I’m putting this rule to maximize everyones creativity, I believe that by using one lens you can concentrate on your composition and not what gear to use.
2. Prime lens only rule – Yes any prime will do, example: 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, etc.
3. Don’t forget 1 and 2 rules. :)
4. For this last rule, this is only applicable if you can handle it. No LCD picture review, No auto settings, shoot at JPG,,,,the rule is “The manual rule”.

Where:
Session starts at City Hall, just get up the middle escallator and you’ll find a mcdonalds on the righ side.

When:

---26th of June 2010----
---Meetups at 0730AM---
Move out at 0800AM sharp

Okedoks, looks like this is going to be a good turn out. For those people who are up for picture review after this exercise, I'm sad to say but we can't. I'll just start a thread and you can post your pics thereafter.

Here are the items you need to know at our online photo review session.
1. I'll start the thread with title the same as this thread, it will be under "Street Photography" in the forums.
2. Please post your best pics max of 5 and post the aperture settings, shutter speed, camera/lens you've used...you know...details...and dont forget your nick in the pic.
:)
3. Also put your name and your flickr or facebook account so I can add you up and check each others pics.
4. Photoshop is fine, but try to limit it by using just the basic functions. This exercise is to harness our skills not to use as much image editing software as possible.
5. Black and white is ok.
6. Sorry no HDR, please don't hurt me, you can do this outside our thread.

I hope everyone is cool, and if you guys have any suggestions please let everyone know. I'm thinking of making these exercises as weekly as possible. I'm also thinking of night street shootings as well, sunrise, sunset...anything goes.

Also, to answer someones question why I'm doing this...well its simple.
-Make quality pics
-Make new friends, be sociable
-Discuss each others pics (Though this will happen mostly online)
-Exercise burn the fats, yes, believe me I've lost weight.
-Get a nice tan.

I'll see you guys, remember, we're moving sharp...if you're going to be late just follow our tracks or you can call me at 97274845 and I'll try tell you where we are.

Hi TS,

I am interested , but I have a few queries to be cleared:

1.) May i know whether it is allowed for inter-changing of Prime lenses?

2.) By Prime lenses, do you meant both the 'modern' type Prime lenses or/and the 'traditional' SLR type Prime lenses? Can i use lensbaby lens as well too?

3.) Can i bring my tripod along?

4.) Special filters (eg. infrared, ND, reversed-mount etc) allowed?

5.) Apart from using my normal colour DSLR, can i also allowed to use my other infrared-converted DSLR mounted on Prime lens too?

Best of regards.

Your question 1 will outrule rule 1,2

your item 2 is weird, I thought prime lens means there's no zoom? Lens baby is fine, but if you're bringing it and one prime of your choice that's fine.

3,4,5 is ok.

Thank you TS for answering my queries.

Both my question 1 and question 2 is related. I just understand from your answers that no interchanging of Prime lenses is allowed on the same DSLR body. For example interchanging using Nikkor AIS 28mm lens and Nikon AF-S 35mm G lens. Am i right?

So i will be bring two DSLR bodies and each with Prime lenses - one AIS and the other AF-S. Of course no interchanging of lenses allowed.

Very challenging... and i am interested to join you and your group for the shootings :)

Ok, here is my participation in this updated namelist:

This last rule is actually not hard at all, since your viewfinder and LCD panel shows a manual exposure guide (in Nikon, the same bar that shows EV compensation).

If really want to learn the sunny 16 method, use a lens your camera cannot meter with - like a Ai/Ais lens on a D90/D80/D70/D60/D40(x)/D5k/D3k.
