Hi Pentaxians,

Some of you love macro photography but sorry I am not one. Happened to see this link and very surprised that photographer own Pentax K20D and made DIY Fibre optic for flash. Thought may be useful to you.

Enjoy reading this. The Fring

I finally understand why he call "Fring".

Thanks for the link woonsin.
Sooo cool, and your dentist will love you for it. :bsmilie:

Haha thanks creampuff...

I thought of making fibre optics like his DIY Fring but long ago, I happened to pass by Sim Lim Tower and looked for any shop that sell fibre optic. Finally I found small shop that sell fibre optics like tree light but fibre optics :thumbsd: was too tiny for me to make DIY and asked owner if he had any thick ones left. He said he did not have such ones but had to call for order from other retailer.

So I dropped my idea until I saw this link. That make me tempted to make this for fun. Who :dunno:

Another link - Ring Lights is very interesting - you may like his very nice idea of making DIY Ring Lights

Thanks for the link woonsin.

Was telling otc a few days ago, that I'd been wanting to do this optic fibre light since I first saw it a while ago. But no time to hunt for the optic fibre, woosin if you do find some good ones let me know. I was thinking about going GM trading to see if they have cheap ones from toys/displays.

It might be easier to just use a LED torchlight that is now easily available and cheap.
Just need to adj for white balance.

If only it's as easy.

Think most of us who are interested in this optic fibre project are those who takes at 1:1 or much bigger magnification. We need at least 1/90s (1:1 can be slower) and working with f8 or more narrow aperture, if possible at ISO100/200. For me I'll be using the optic fibre with maybe a 3 or less LED touch (too bright just might scare the insects away) to help focus reverse 28mm macro @f16-22.

presumably this will be used exclusively as part of a macro set-up, so the lens change part may not be a significant con.

Surely, I will keep lookout for you if you like. I happened to check some info regarding fibre optics in google and found very few wholesalers selling these but too bad I cannot call them. :dunno:

Not advisable to go for wholesalers, best get from those cheapo shops which stocks come from China. They are often more cheap than those specialised in selling fibre optics for the industry.;) Wonder if Daiso toy section has this;p

Hi Longko,

Sorry I cannot find such these at Daiso except only small length of fibre optics but these are used for girl's hairpin.

Will keep hunting for other shops soon.
