Hi all

Not sure if this thread should be here. If not, Mods please shift to the correct forum.

Anyone has any recommendation for travel insurance that give good coverage to our camera? I'm going alone to JB this coming weekend, Thought I hope nothing going to happen to me, but I guess better be safe than sorry:sweat:

Thanks.

yes ... will like to hear from the pro ... I noticed my past travel insurance only provide up to a max of $500 (or max of $1000) for each item ... too little for all the lenses & cam should anything happen ...
also, lately read from newspaper about someone brought handphone insurance coverage for theft .. but was 'pick-pocket' ... the insurance policy refuse to pay as 'pick-pocket' is not theft (ridiculous!!) ... I believe pro here used to bring lots of expensive equipments overseas .. care to share ?

I make use of the rider on my home insurance.

You can PM funny (if she still regularly checks her PMs here). She's my agent.

Oh yes, I would like to add, I opted to do this because of the greater amount insured, and most travel insurance does not apply to me as I am based out of Singapore for pretty long durations at a time. Thus I don't "qualify" for the travel insurance coverage.

That's quite a good way to insure.

Travel insurance has a per item/set cap ($500 to $1000 depending on insurer). So, your camera and all your lens, plus your flash, may be construed as a set by the insurer. My friend lost his camera and lens while on a trip. He wants to argue that the camera and the lens are not considered one set. I think the insurer will win in this case. He is still fighting with them.

If you want to insure all your items separately, you need to declare and itemise them. Then the insurer to give you a quote. I'm sure some pros have specialist insurers to insurer their equipment, especially when you can charge it to your company. Freelance photographers usually don't insure, and face the risk.

why u only insure it when u go oversea? you mean sg is so safe?

Maybe you can enlighten me why would a local needs a travel insurance when he is in his own country?

but why do you need a travel insurance when u are oversea? you mean your equipment will nv be lost in sg?

Travel Insurance does not cover equipment only but also things like accident, hospitalise etc. As mentioned by some members, we can only claimed up to certain amount and it is not very much.

You want to insure in Singapore also can. You pay money, you get the insurance. But people insure only when they percieve a risk. You can also insure it as a home content... It's up to you.

And yes... it is a general perception that Singapore is safer than most other countries.

All you need to do is go down to a relatively big insurance company and have a customised insurance drafted and be put in force. Nowadays insurance covers everything from pets to bowel problems. :bsmilie:

In sg u snap, go home download and dump the cam into the dry cab. In oversea, u're in a unfamiliar environment and u be carrying not only your equipments. Chances of losing things is higher. And chances of getting robbed of the equipments also high.
