Location : ClubSNAP Gallery @ Funan Unit #04-31
Time: 10th January, Saturday, 2015, 1 - 2:30pm (1.5 Hour).

Talk Synopsis:
"Oh my, you took THAT picture from your balcony!" is the typical response when someone views one of Remus's astrophotographs. Remus, a geospatial consultant by day, enters the world of 21st century amateur astrophotography by night. Gone are the days when amateurs, exposing themselves to mosquito attacks, used clunky old telescopes and film cameras, and produced inferior images that were usually grainy, blurry, and poorly exposed.

Today's amateur astrophotographer can take advantage of amazing equipment and techniques that have evolved over the past 20 years. The hobby gives the ultimate "high" for those yearning to combine their interests in astronomy, photography, and computing. The telescopes sit on top of computerized "goto" mounts, which instantly and accurately slew to any of thousands of objects in their in-built databases. The cameras are digital, and often manufactured solely for astroimaging, though many amateurs also use DSLRs - the same ones that one can purchase easily anywhere, whether in local stores or through the internet.

Be awed in this session where the speaker will enlighten the audience with an introduction into digital astrophotography that has never seen easier times than now!

There will also be a special feature insight into the Comet Lovejoy & Telescope Display 2015 that will happen on this same day at the East Coast Park (open to all!).

About the Speaker:
With the advent of technology, astrophotography has risen to a whole new level, with the ability to capture high resolution images with modest amateur instruments, avoiding the need to invest heavily. Since 1990, the author has taken an avid interest in the various fields of astronomical imaging, ranging from emulsion-based (film), CMOS, to CCD deep sky imaging, with the data acquisition of information including the wide-field panoramic expanse of the Milky Way to narrow-field record of galaxies and planetary nebulae. He has also taken a keen interest in the areas of planetary and solar system high-resolution imaging (from sunspots to assembling of lunar mosaics covering detailed lunar topographical surfaces), resulting in image publications in internationally renowned astronomy magazines like ASTRONOMY and SKY AND TELESCOPE, as well as local media publications.
