What is the difference between incident and spot metering?
Are they the same thing or difference entity all together? :dunno:

incident light is compared against reflected light...
remember angles we learn in school
incident angle and reflected angle

cameras use reflected light meters meaning it measures the light reflected from the subject to make an exposure reading...

incident light meters make use of light that is hitting the subject... these are handheld meters and are different from the meter that comes onboard most camera...

incident meters are useful for portraiture other subjects where you can go near to measure the light at the exact location...

spot meter on the other hand is a type of metering that takes a small spot of area to read as opposed to the whole general area or a evaluative calculation...

Other than a light meter that one can purchase, is there no way that incidence light can be measured by the onboard meter that comes with one's camera?

cameras need to have reflected light meters onboard not incident light meters because the camera is away from the subject when shooting.

therefore yes, incident meters have to be handheld and placed at the subject to make a measurement..
