Ahhhhhh!! that's what i'm afraid of!

Depends on what you want to shoot and what aperture u shoot with. Also depends on how big you want your prints. Its always a degradation putting more optics between ur lens and sensor but...

EF70-200mm f2.8L IS and Kenko 1.4x & 2x.

Hi cibs...all those sports shots are at 400mm? what aperture did you use? I always read stop down to F8 is best. In your opinion, is that good to take some distant animals like cats, lizards and birds? Am considering same option as I probably do not need the 400mm that often.

Not necessarily f8. If you are using an L, about 2/3 - 2 stops down from wide open seems to be sharpest. Once you put on ur extender, ur lens effectively becomes a daylight lens.. i wouldnt recommend small things like birds and lizards.. the effective resolving capabilities of the lens is diminished by the extender..

Thanks! This is very helpful. Will get one and try it out. :)

I think the 2x Extender is almost un-usable IMO... 1.4x is the way to go max :embrass:

i have been reading up on this..and here are a few links which will give anyone keen on trying out a 2x TC some ideas..

So i think it's definite there will be compromises in quality..but looking at the pictures, it seems like it may be usable if stop down..again without comparing to the prime lens of same length...cos it's not comparable..if want quality have to pay... :D
gonna get one to try out and will post pics to see..possibly a good solution to someone who dun need the long reach frequently..
