you don't need a degree to take great pictures
its a benefit, but it isn't everything, nor is it a prerequisite
i say this, considering i've dropped out of such a path before... =)
Considering a career path for fighters with a comfortable position
as Chief Photo Editor in a major newsapaper or magazine when
you are reaching your late 40s, the piece of paper qualification
will help you to that goal.
The fighting in the battle field of professional photography can
start as soon as you are ready to shoot everyday, knocking on
doors of ad agency art directors, newspapers etc including
holding your one man photo exhibition to tell the world who
you are and that you are alive.
Without that degree, most probably you will be fightling fit
even when you are at the age of 70 shooting for the few
important clients that you have. On the other hand, if you are
capable in business practice, you will be running a studio or two
with employees to shoot for you. Which ever path you choose
need careful planning and guidance from experts who had gone
through this fairytale tunnel of visionary ectasy. Warmest regards
to all those aspiring students of photography.
