Put on human is probably still the best.
Because clothes were meant to be worn, and no one can tell what your clothing looks like when it's 2D. Imho.

don't have to pay them,
don't have to see their mood,
don't need go for toilet brake,
don't have buy green tea for them,
don't have to worry they go party all night long and forgot about the shoot,

won't keep sms or making phone call during the shoot.
won't complain your clothes won't fit or make them look fat,
won't take an hour to do make up,
won't ask you give clothes to them

Yes that's an alternative to making the clothes 3D.
You can also use a cat, but the clothes probably won't fit and your customers can only tell what your clothes look like heaped on an angry looking feline. :bsmilie:
