My friend went to shoot in the rain with a D30.

Water splash everywhere, whole body wet, camera body also wet.

But after cleaning, everything is working well again.

That's splash-proof only.

Water-proof means you immersed the camera under water and it will still take pictures.

yah... even if one of them gets spoilt, you don't have to worry about not having any DSLR to use anymore... :D

splash proof : cannot immerse in water
water proof : can immerse water but not to depth that creates pressure
water resistant : can go into water (depending on depth)

i think depends on luck one...may be water gets in but haven't short circuit anything at all...if you are unlucky and water get to the CPU or some important chip then it will die on the spot

thought water resistant meant ability to "resist" water until it "gave way" and it's no longer resistant, while water proof means that water could not get through no matter what? nothing to do with underwater which has different problems (pressure for one).
