The Q has been quite a ridiculed camera since it was announced in 2011.
All the pundits and armchair theorists laughed at its small sensor.

But now that the price has come down to be close to other advanced compacts, I've finally got one.
Personally, after playing with it for about 2-3 weeks, I am thankful that a camera company like Pentax thought and went out of the norm and produced such a small gem.
A unique offering that no other maker has, providing unique opportunities for the enthusiast photographer.

Pentax Q+F*300 (1650mm equivalent)

This has got to be my best Moon shot to date.
Even after cropping off about 30-40% of the original frame for composition, the details are the best out of all the Moon shots I've done.
With APS-C, I could have cropped, but at this size of the Moon, the pixel would be close to showing and the file size would be very small 2-4MB.

Settings was ISO125, f4.5, 1/200
I believe it can be a better shot if there were no clouds and more time to focus, plus play with more settings

Wow nice, 1650mm! such details! Waiting for your macro shots. These 2 genres makes Q a capable system. Can show a shot of the Combi?

Thanks guys.
Before the Q, I'd certainly have to spend a bomb just to take a shot like this.
Even buying teleconverters and stacking them would be either questionable in o/p and/or expensive (at $200-300 per tele-converter).
Not to mention the redundancy with the 2-3 extra teleconverters since usually they are not used more than one at a time.

With that one, I think can check of the Autobot spaceship crashed on the dark side of the Moon :D

Ok.. I take a shot of the combi in a few days when I get some time. :)
Macro is just wonderful with it.
All focusing from near to far on one lens.
No need to put on close focus filter for 1:1 or larger, then take off again for non 1:1 shots, then on again..... all that hassle and needing to keep the close up filter clean at the same time with all the handling..... whew...

Great effort showcasing the capabilities of the Q and of course, that wonderfully compact 300mm too! :)
Especially nice for an amateur astronomer like me....Well done, Bro! :)

Something else for today.

Just can't get enough of macro now with the Q.
Rushed home to grab my gear for a short 45min session at Yishun park.

Probably my best shot for the day.

The capability of the Q with a macro lens never fails to amaze me.
On APS-C, I would have needed a long lens + reversed 50mm and still crop a lot to get near (but still not exactly) this.
And then struggle with the limited range of focusing due to the reversed lens.

But with the Q, its easy peasy....
Just focus at the distance I need.
Far, near, no problem at all.

Jumping Spider about 4mm in size.

Hmm... he looks like a hairy crab... wonder if he's tasty :D

Agree.. he is poisoning me of thinking of a Q..
Wait for my review before deciding. ;)
But if you like cameras and don't mind spending the bit of money for a fun secondary system like for the things I'm using it for in this thread, then just get one.
To me, like those niche 110, PEN, 44 cameras of the film days, the Q is like a product in that vein.
They were not going to sell boat loads of them, but at least some makers went out of their way to make those cameras.
Nowadays, those cameras are still collector items and classics even when film for them are no longer made.

Pinhole: what mount adapter did u use?
There have been quite a few PM on the adapter.
I got it on Ebay.
The RJ (JinFinancE) one.
Price is $66.
