By the way, Ruthbaby, the egg in the picture is not in focus. Furthermore, I feel that it is not obvius that the egg is standing. Try using a lighter surface to stand the egg on, and play with the lighting to get the shadow of the egg on the surface. That will be more obvious that the egg is actually standing. To enhance the effec, try to stand the egg with the narrower end down.

I believe that the egg is standing and not lying (no pun intended) on its side.
This is a hard boiled egg. Have seen somewhere in the newspaper that when you spin on its side, the centrifugal forces of the egg will make it stand at its end.
