With the gracious me campaign, 16 out of 62 seats in a cabin are reserved for needy. And I noticed 2 new groups of dependencies. Parents with baby in pram. Daddy will carry baby while mummy push the pram full of diaper, milk powder, etc. The other type is grey hair, not yet white, but grey haired senior adults who think they are old enough to deserve a seat. How to identify this group? They will stand are the reserved seats or in front of a young chap. Then there are the classic seats hogs. Earphone plugged into iPhone, put on shades and see no evil, hear no evil type. And the obese Singaporean whose butt will filter left, right or sometimes both. Nowadays, with FT comes 2 new types. Minus the fairer sex and young ones. There isn't space for a lone single male on the chairs anymore.

Seems like rush hour is extended to 24hrs a day. Even the afternoon lazy hours sometimes the train also reasonably packed already.

Weekends are worse, whole day packed until late night. :(

The II with their aroma therapeutics smell which means the seat left and right are too overpowering to be taken. And the CC that will yabba yabba non-stop meaning the left and right seat not peaceful without the latest noise reducing earphones. Minus the fairer sex and young ones. Petition for the introduction and eventual legislation of specialised user only MRT cabins.
Anyone who misused the cabins will be fined $500 on 1st offence, $2000 on second offence and banned from using MRT for 3 years on 3rd offence.
On every MRT train, it will have cabins strictly reserved for:

pregnant ladies only
ladies only
elderly only
local Singaporeans only
Foreigners only - includes Filipino maids, workers, Bangla workers, PRC etc...
handicapped only
any other category that you can think of.

try two tiers fare,

standing fare
and
sitting fare

eventually will make each MRT car have less seats, more room for commuters, more revenue for MRT operators, everybody happy

Try to legislate that MRT trains have 100% cabins that are [sitting only]. Strictly no one is allowed to stand in any MRT train while it is in motion between stations.
The MRT operator will be fined if their driver moves off from the station with any commuter standing. Change the seat layout inside the trains.

It is just a matter of what we are used to.
Passenger planes are all sitting only. There are no passenger planes where the commuters stand up throughout the whole flight.

Simply apply this rule to the MRT train.

MRT and Buses are public transport... seats should always be 1st come 1st served... And not the one who pay more 'wins' the seat... if you are willing to pay more in the 1st place.. go book a CAB.

mind if i ask. why there is a standing capacity limit in buses and why is it not enforced in trains service?

Don't complain. It's the same in other countries' subway system.
