Came across this device recently which is able to transfer pictures taken in CF card from camera directly onto the device without using computer.

The brand which I came across is UDMA hyperdrive colour space.

Googled for more info on this device and came across several other comparative models from various brands such as Sanho and Vasonic ones with similar functions. Does any of you have any experience on using these gadgets? Any advise on which brand is better?

I am looking to buy one of these too for overseas trips where I cannot carry a laptop. Would like to know if anyone has had experience with this too...

Sanho is the OEM of Hyperdrive Colorspace UDMA. The same product is called CompactDrive PD100 in China.

This Portable Storage Device (PSD) is considered a mid-range product. Similar product but in upper range will be the Epson P-3000/P-7000 PSD.

In terms of upload speed, Hyperdrive is faster than Epson. It has a 3.2" LCD screen to allow you to view the pic that it copied from flash memory and can display popular camera RAW files (display the jpeg embedded in the RAW file). Korean-made NEXTO also has a fast PSD for uploading files but it does not have a screen to display the actual photo.

In Singapore, Hyperdrive dealer is MemoryWorld and NEXTO is under Eastgear.

Vosonic (Taiwan manufacturer) has similar PSDs which are also considered mid-range but I am not familiar with them. (I think Eastgear also carries Vosonic)

I sold one of the older model (http://www.3hdigital.com/2006/imagefile/pro/12319877432439a.jpg) in B&S recently since I start using Netbook to transfer my images. One thing I miss about Hyperdrive is its ability to recover corrupted memory card. Overall, a very solid product doing exactly what it is designed to do.

Thanks for the information.

Actually am thinking along these hyperdrives being good for travelling as can transfer photos over to the storage device while being on a move.

Do you have any idea whether there is any perfomance difference between the hyperdrives model on top just looking at upload speed? What about reliability?

As far as I know, the latest model support UDMA mode and Sata drives. The upload speed of different models such as Hyperdrive Colorspace, and Colorspace O are at 1gb/min and the latest model Colorspace UDMA speed is at 2gb/min.

is there a price guide on these items somewhere?

I don't think so. But MemoryWorld in SLS and Funan carries this product. Can go there to check on the price.
