Hubble Ultra Deep Field images

These pics were taken by the hubble last year. Its a ~11.5 day exposure of a area of sky the size of a grain of sand held at arms length. Amazing stuff.

That's because the Hubble space telescope is in orbit around the earth, 600 km above the ground, and can be oriented to keep looking at a certain patch of space.
