Price of HP is much cheaper than MBP.
Spec of HP is much better than MBP
Blue ray,

Mac Sys and interface is much better than HP Window system
Mac design better than HP
dual graphics

imho, when you are comparing two high powered notebooks running on different platform, you should not be comparing specs. You should be asking yourself:
1. Do i prefer OSX or vista?
2. Software support for specialised programs
3. Gaming

If for extreme gaming, you are better off with vista.

For items like blueray, and some special harwares, these are not an everyday used items. you can add them on as external peripherals when need to use on an ad hoc basis.

Sometimes, less is more.

MBP, DDR3 ram, up to 8gb with good graphics and heard the 17" can go up to 8hrs on battery. But you have to balace the price to performance ratio. If can afford it, i recommend the MBP anytime. Screen resolution is also much higher than the HP. Thus the price. The plus will be able to run osx and also windows(on bootcamp or vmware).

What if the price of the HP i can get is half the price of the MBP $2k? will you consider the MBP still?

Platform wise, both can be use for all purposes. It is most probably design and the brand which influence people to choose that product.

I like both and these 2 system will be able to satisfy my needs.

mbp 17" is around 4k+ la. I personally would WANT the mbp, but in real life have to balance lorz. I personally like the MBP for its design cause its build quality is generally good, weight optimisation(im serious about this), and since the drivers are custom written by apple, should give more stability(so far so good for my macbook). I'm actually allright with either as long as it gets the job done. It depends on what threadstarter wants to do. If he is like me, edit on FCP, then bo bian, have to get MBP lorz.

I personally would actually get a 15" laptop(lighter, cheaper, makan less battery) and buy an extra Large large large screen to work with as secondary monitor when portability is not a concern instead.

I found that computer is more than satisfying our needs or requirements.

Sometimes, it is the feel, whether we love and comfortable with the user interface, the workflow.

The technology is forever upgrading and interface or platform will change as time passes so i believe that workflow or interface can be accustomed to.

i am more towards the HP model but of cos i would like to see what is so good about MBP?
Will be borrowing the MPB from my friend but it is a 15" model to try it out.

The price ratio is not really favorable for MPB. i can buy 2 high end or 1 really high end laptop from other brands.

I hope with the hands on, i can be convinced to switch to MPB instead.. and most probably 15 "

HP almost cost twice lesser den the MBP.

i would say. get the HP...... save the money for other things as economy not so good.

Blue ray

Err are you sure the HP spec is much better then MBP?

HP running on DDR2 ram and MBP running DDR3 lei and also got so many more things faster then the HP.

FYI all these above you quoted also apply to MBP, you can run Windows completely in MBP also.

So to say MBP is Multi OS enable.

The question should be;

Do you prefer to just run Windows/Linux only in HP or prefer to allow you to run OSX, Windows, Linux, Unix in MBP?

when paying the double the price also.

lolz.. ya no choice cause better spec and software ma.... Cause if like that compare... then wait end up compare

Netbook with HP....

If you really need such highend graphic and speed of coz you have to pay for the price. If not a much better compare will be the HP with MBP 15"

Trust me if you are thinking of bring around a laptop then forget about MBP 17" cause it slightly too big to be easily carry around.

If you really dont need that high end spec like MBP type why not at a look at MB will do. They are also fast enough to do video and photo editing.

yeah. the MB is good enough IMHO, or just get the HP...... HP battery life is good also nowadays.... MBP still have issues with their adapters and trackpads..

The graphic card is different, the screen is different, the processor is different, battery is also differnt and so is the build quality of the laptop. I feel cannot really compare la. Want to compare have to compare with something similar build quality like a thinkpad. In this case the onli thing can use as consideration is budget. Also I think the 15" mbp is a fairer comparison due to screen resolution size. No point having a low resolution but large screen. Only adds on to weight.

U prefer Vista or OS X? Best is to look beyond what is written on the paper and see the bigger picture.

Windows 7 is just around the corner if you don't mind waiting till September 09. Very promising and 'lighter' than Vista. PC is more cost effective and gets the job done as well. Maybe not as 'cool' as a Mac but if your basic needs are met, why not go for the cheaper alternative? You can save the money for something else, e.g. a new lens maybe? Hehe.

If money is of no concern to you, go buy a Mac. Its a beautiful and well thought out system. I prefer working on OS X because I find it more productive and responsive. Text and images looks much nicer on OS X. I do a lot of design btw so looking good is part and parcel of my work. Another thing to love a Mac is you won't have to update your anti-virus every now and then. Helps me sleep better at night too.

Hope that helps and best of luck choosing the right tool for the job. Cheers!

Indeed the duo platform is workable and tested well. still, i wont install my mac with windows. i still prefer to run seperate. just a personal preferance and i do not mean to implicate on others.

as i am not into gaming, all the macs i use does not have windows installed. when i needed windows, i just use the notebook with vista or XP or win2000 built in. besides, being different OS, i can run two or three machines simultaneously to earn time.

The display resolution (1920x1200 vs. 1440x900) of the MacBook Pro is worth it, especially along with the dual graphics hardware. The thickness of Apple's notebooks in contrast to the rest is often a big point.

17 inch notebook computers are not easy travelers but it can be done.

Corret me if i am wrong, this is not the SLI dual graphic, in the MBP, you are mainly switching the graphic usuage. Meaning if you are using normal application, then you use the 9400, and if you are using photoshop, you can switch to 9600. in this case, the HP one is already sufficient.

Yes the resolution is better, but i already have a 30 inch Dell monitor.

DDR3 and DDR if you read the spec or review in HWZ the differences are not significant.

Thanks guys for all your comments. I bought the DV7-1000 series for $2k. Really worth the money. and i can spend the other 2k to get my lenses and accessories..

Which one is better at memory, process and file management?
Which one can multitask better?
I think the answer is obvious.
Some OS, when I run many programs at the same time, it becomes sluggish and hard disk activities become very high. Keep on hearing the hard disk spinning noise. :bsmilie:
