how to use non-dx encoded film in compacts?

Hi everyone.

I have a nikon compact (zoom 300 AF) and I wish to use non-dx encoded film with it but the camera doesn't allow me to change ISO settings nor exposure compensation.

How can I get pass this problem? is there a way to trick the DX reader?

I remember seeing commercially made DX stickers that one would put onto the film cartridge some years ago. Maybe one can still get them?

Maybe you can make your own DX stickers with aluminium foil and some sticky tape. Just cut out squares of tape and stick it on the foil to make those parts non-conductive.
