How do you test whether the lens you got is a good copy?How do you gauge if the lens is sharp after doing the test?Thanks in advance ;)

Very early days of popular photography, they did the following;

1. Tape the newpaper on the door.
2. Shoot at the xx focal length, all the varying apertures.
3. Move on to next xx focal length. Repeat above.

Or choose the most common xx focal length you use, repeat 2.

If film, you print as 8R to eyeball.
If Digital, use your comp!

Only much later, after much complains, they begin to use "specialized" test charts like those use by lens manufacturers! :bsmilie:

You could go the hard core way and do your own MTF (SFR) measurements of your own lenses - take a look at http://www.imatest.com/docs/sharpness.html

You'd have to ask why someone would want to do that - but then of course they would answer - because they can!

Anybody done this before ?
