How to shoot "sparkle"

Hi all,

Anyone here can share how to shoot pictures of rings, necklaces, other accessories(diamond, crystals, etc.) that shows the "sparkle"/ glittering effect? Those that has the 'rainbow of colors'? Cos when i tried to shoot, the pic turns the crystal quite flat juz like a piece of see thru glass without the glittering.

I can't help you with how to shoot it, but I know that in the industry, its often added in photoshop..
But of course, I'll like to learn as well.

Adding a star-6 filter may help too.

It's not about PS all the time...

For a "cheapo" setup, you can try rigging the camera to manual shutter control, keep it open on a tripod while using a torchlight to flash across the crystal. It'll take many tries to get it right, but if you want to "catch" a sparkle this is worth a shot.

Of course, it looks best with a macro lens and a solid-colored background.
