How to make soft looking skin for video recording.

Shot this on my new 7D with 50mm 1.8f and Sigma 17-70mm.
Its my first try in video work.
We used 2 studio lights, just the modeling light.
Camera set to overexpose to cover up the flaws of the skin. However, everything look washout.

This is a school project, tts a video for Health promotion Board, HPB, Be positive campaign, based on the smiling, to makes people happy and creates a positive attitude.

If you set to overexpose, of COURSE it will look washed out. That's a result of overexposing.

If you want the skin to look smooth, put effort into make-up.

Agrreed, not a pro in videography, but probably the only way to get soft looking skin is makeup

Apart from taking care with the lighting, you can also use on-camera filters to smooth out skin blemishes. This page describes the uses of the various Tiffen filters, some are designed mainly to flatter skin textures.

And of course there's the old vaseline on the lens trick, if you dare to try it.

First basic is the base foundational skin.

Second is competent make-up.

Next is competent lighting set-ups.

Then comes the 'after-effects' filters in cinematography ... or even tons of post.

If done in post, without all the proper foundations, it might end up looking really gimmicky and 'OTT'.
